2/27/2014------The Westin Resort, Aruba officially closed.

2/22/2014------Riu $60 Million Renovations on Westin
The Riu will close the Westin Aruba Resort on February 27, 2014 to implement a
renovation and improvement program costing up to US$60 million. It is expected to take around a year for completion. The property will reopen in 2015 under the Riu flag, which will become a sister property to the Hotel Riu Palace Aruba, the all-inclusive resort on Palm Beach.

11/23/2013-----The Ritz-Carlton, Aruba Opens
The Ritz Carlton, Aruba has arrived on Palm Beach! This luxurious resort has 320 guestrooms including 55 suites. Two of the suites have a panoramic oceanfront view and an outdoor shower. The resort has a Club Lounge and a 15,000 sq. ft. Ritz Carlton Spa. It also features four dining options: Madero Argentinian Grill,  Solanio,  Les Crustaces,  and the Divi Bar & Lounge. It also has an impressive 15,000 sq. ft.  Casino with an assortment of table games and over 300 slot machines.

11/9/2013-----Blue Residence Condo Resort to Open March 2014
Aruba's Blue Residences Condo Resort is planning to open in March 2014 across from Aruba's gorgeous Eagle Beach.There will be a total of 124 units consisting of hotel rooms, one-bedroom apartment suites and three and five-bedroom units.
The property will have three towers, each will have “unobstructed” views of the ocean, with elevated ceilings, private jacuzzi terraces and universal wireless internet.
“This is the first luxury resort to open on Eagle Beach in the past 20 years and we are excited about the prospect of promoting this to both loyal Aruba vacationers as well as those coming to the island for the first time,” said Herber Valkenberg, president of Icon Hotel Marketing.

11/8/2013-----Westin purchased by Riu
On Nov. 8th The Morning News Aruba published an article with the heading "RIU officially notifies Aruba government they will purchase Westin Resort". They say the process will take about two months to be finalized.

4/30/2013-----Switch from Queen to King
On 30 April 2013, on Queen's Day, Prince Willem-Alexander succeeded his mother Beatrix and became King of the Netherlands. Consequently, from 2014 onwards the name is to be changed from Queen's Day to King's Day. The date has also changed from 30 April to 27 April, which is the birthday of Willem-Alexander.

1/13/12-----JORAN VAN DER SLOOT GETS 28 YEARS IN PRISON

Joran Van Der Sloot was sentenced to 28 years in a Peruvian prison for the murder of 21 year old, Stephany Flores. U.S. authorities are attempting to extradite Joran to the U.S. to face charges of extortion from Natalee Halloway's mother, Beth Halloway.

1/11/12-----JORAN PLEADS GUILTY

After asking the judge last week for more time to think about how he would plead to the charges, 24 y/o Dutch citizen, Joran van der Sloot, pleads guilty to the 2010 murder of a 21 y/o Peruvian woman named Stephany Flores. His lawyer stated his client killed her as a result of “extreme psychological trauma” he suffered from the experiences he had from the 2005 disappearance on the island of Aruba, of Alabama, USA teenager Natalee Holloway. Three judges have 48 hrs. to render a sentence.

1/11/12-----PWA WORLD TOUR 2012

The best windsurfers in the world will compete in the Freestyle, Wave and Slalom PWA World Tour 2012 Competition. The chosen venues include the island of Aruba.
Tentative dates on Aruba: May 26-30, Freestyle and May 29-June 2, Slalom.

1/10/12-----DIVI RESORTS, ARUBA RENOVATIONS

The Divi Resort renovations includes 5 properties, 1170 units, casino, shopping bazaar, golf course and beachfront property. The casino and retail complex are the last stage of modernization and expansion. The Alhambra Casino is expanding to over 30% more floor area and adding over 100 more slot machines. Divi Village Golf & Beach Resort has a new 12,000 sq. foot open lobby.

1/7/12-----Tierra del Sol’s New Year Golf Tournament 2012

Fifty golfers competed on the 18 hole champion golf course at Tierra del Sol Resort Spa & Country Club in a stroke play tournament on the island of Aruba. The winners of the New Year Golf Tournament were, John”Maine Maniac” Lizotte in the net division and local golfer, Shine Helmen in the gross division.

3/10/11 KLM airlines will increase the frequency of its services to Aruba from two to five weekly flights starting October 30, 2011.

3/14/11 Will almost six years of mystery about Natalee Holloway's fate be solved when FBI agents inspect the hard drive of Joran van der Sloot's computer? FBI agents will meet with Peruvian justice officials and are expected to get a copy of the contents of Joran van der Sloot's laptop. On February 17, 2010
The Ritz Carlton Hotel Company and the government of Aruba announced plans to open THE RITZ CARLTON, ARUBA . This will be a $200 million dollar project that will build a 320 room oceanfront 5 Star luxury resort, north of the Marriott on Palm Beach. This hotel is projected to open by late 2012.

24th Annual Aruba Hi-Winds 2010 Competition
This much anticipated event happens at Fisherman’s Huts each year. It is one of the largest windsurfing events in the Caribbean which includes both windsurfing and kite boarding. There is entertainment and partying happening throughout the six days and nights during this event. Registration for all participants is on Wednesday, June 30, at the Hi-Winds site at Fisherman’s Huts. This competition is an annual aruba news event.

Richard Gere hosts Aruba’s 1st International Film Festival. For seven days, films from all over the world will be screened at the Festival, and Aruba will be the host for some of the most talented moviemakers and movie stars in the industry. This will be an extremely exciting event for visitors and for local Arubans.

AMAZONIA CHURRASCARIA
The popular restaurant, Amazonia Churrascaria initiates their Senor Discount program using the slogan “60 Never Tasted So Good”. General Manager of the restaurant Hubert Solagnier says any patron over the age of 60, with proper ID, will pay 50% of the full dinner price. The restaurant is open Monday through Saturday, 6pm to 11pm and Sunday, 4pm to 11pm.

2ND ARUBA REMBRANDT REGATTA
This event consists of three days of international competition for yachts, sunfishes, beach-cats, windsurfers, and kite-surfers. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners will be given their awards at Café Rembrandt, South Beach Plaza. There will be lots of partying, music and fun for all. This competition is an annual aruba news event.

ARUBA INTERNATIONAL PRO-AM GOLF TOURNAMENT
This international golf tournament takes place at Tierra Del Sol Aruba Resort, Spa and Country Club. Tournament fee: $499 per golfer, Spouses: $175, including accommodations and all tournament functions.

On September 2- 4, 2010
1ST ARUBA WINE EXTRAVAGANZA
This event will be held at the Radisson Aruba Resort Casino and Spa for three days and will include 30-40 different South American wineries. There will be wine tasting under the stars, special lunches, and a sparkling wine reception in the ball room foyer followed by a gala dinner and award presentation.

4TH CARIBBEAN SEA JAZZ FESTIVAL
This is an outdoor festival with an impressive line-up of the most talented local and international musicians presenting a high quality musical event for all to enjoy. It is held at Cas Di Cultura Plaza.

KID’S HALLOWEEN TRICK OR TREAT CELEBRATION
This Halloween celebration is at Paseo Herencia on Sunday, October 31st @ 5pm - 7:30pm. Prizes will be given for the best costume. Loads of fun to be had!

ARUBA HEINEKEN CATAMARAN REGATTA
This is a whole week of sailing catamaran races, happy hours, dinners and dancing on the beach under the palm trees.
