You will be amazed at all the opportunities there are for you while shopping in Aruba. There are a maze of shops and malls in downtown Oranjestad. There are also shops and malls in and around the resort areas. If you are looking for designer luxury items or local arts and crafts, and anything in between, you will find them on this island. If you love to shop you will feel like you are in heaven!
Regular shopping hours are 9:00am-6:00pm, Monday through Saturday. Most stores are closed on Sunday. When the cruise ships are in port many stores will extend their hours so vacationers can go shopping in Aruba. Major credit cards, travelers’ checks and US currency are accepted but personal checks are not.
The idea that Aruba has duty free shopping I have found only to be true at the airport. You may find some discounts for certain items but you must use your knowledge and your common sense when it comes to shopping on the island.
The Port of Call Shopping Mall is right outside the cruise ship terminal. You will also find many outdoor flea market type stands that are set up along the harbor with a variety of arts and crafts made by the local people of Aruba. Great for simple souvenirs, tee shirts, and novelty items.
The Royal Plaza Mall is across from the harbor markets in Oranjestad. It is a lovely, clean, pink, white and pastel colored three story structure featuring Dutch architecture. Gandelman offers an array of luxury goods including porcelain by Lladro, watches by Rolex, Cartier, Gucci, Movado, Rado and much more. Royal Jewels and Diamonds is located here. Tommy Hilfiger, Nautica, Benetton, and Shiva’s are just a few of the stores you will find at the Royal Plaza Mall. Other shops sell watches, linens, Aruba jewelry, designer handbags, and designer sunglasses, perfumes, cigars, souvenirs and much more.
Of course, while shopping in Aruba you must stop at the famous Iguana Joe’s Caribbean Bar & Grill for lunch. The fajitas and quesadillas are great! Watch out for their hot sauce! Enjoy a refreshing Pink Iguana drink.
The Renaissance Mall is where you will find an exclusive international group of luxury retailers. In the heart of Oranjestad this mall has over 60 stores, restaurants, and entertainment options. If you are looking for Louis Vuitton, Gucci, Ferragamo, Calvin Klein, Ralph Lauren and other luxury brands, this is the mall for you. It has an atrium café where you can relax with a delicious cup of coffee and it also has the popular Taste of Belgium for all you chocolate lovers. It has a spa, beauty salon, and the 24 hour Crystal Casino.
The Renaissance Marketplace is across the street from the Renaissance Mall. It has a variety of shops that sell clothing, jewelry, sunglasses and more. You will find Taco Bell, Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks, as well as sushi and gourmet Dutch pancakes. There is a six theater cinema and the Seaport casino. There is live entertainment nightly on an open air stage.
When shopping in Aruba you should go to the new South Beach Mall, which is located across from the Hilton Resort. This is where you will find a giant sports bar, a Hard Rock Café, a trendy bar, and shops. Rage is one of the shops where you will find an extensive collection of sterling silver jewelry. Most shops in this area are open until 9:00pm.
While out shopping in Aruba take the time to visit The Village which has live entertainment as well as restaurants and a variety of shops.
The Alhambra Casino Shopping Arcade is open for late night shopping until 12 midnight. There are fast food outlets, boutiques and souvenir shops, all adjacent to the Alhambra Casino.
The Paseo Herencia Mall is located in the Palm Beach area, in front of the Holiday Inn. It is an old village style plaza surrounded by world class shopping, dining, and state of the art cinemas. You’ll be impressed by the nightly liquid fireworks show and the musical performances. The music of local bands and jazz musicians fill the night air. You might as well enjoy the entertainment while you are out shopping in Aruba!
The Palm Beach Plaza Mall is a newly constructed multi-level shopping mall located 1 block from the Holiday Inn, with a variety of shops and multiple activities to keep the kids busy. While you are shopping in Aruba the kids can have fun too. This mall has a food court, a children’s train, an eight screen movie theater, rock climbing wall, bowling alley, electronic game zone and a multitude of shops to choose from.
If you don’t want to leave your resort area you will find a variety of shops in most of the resorts on Palm Beach and Eagle Beach selling clothes, jewelry, wine, sundries, snacks, books, souvenirs and much more.

These can be found in the vicinity of the low rise timeshares and resorts. They are fully stocked with grocery items. They carry low-carb, sugar free, gluten-free items. They also have international and gourmet foods.
In Aruba’s supermarkets you will find wonderful Dutch cheese, confections, exotic condiments, international wines and liqueurs, local spirits, produce and hot sauces, homemade baked goods, like pastechi (a deep fried pastry), pan bollo (Aruban bread pudding), health and beauty products, Aruba aloe, tobacco, housewears, pet food, baby necessities, reading material and much more. The prices in the supermarkets will be in Aruban guilders. The markets usually are open 8:00am-8:00pm on Monday through Saturday, and 9:00am-1:00pm on Sunday.
While shopping in Aruba you'll find that most items are priced slightly higher than what it would cost you in your hometown. Don’t forget to tip the person who packs for you since they usually will help you bring the packages to your vehicle.
